![]() or opening a window.įor the 1% that is a real alarm, the intruder is in and out way before police will show up. I screened hundreds of alarms per day, 99% of them were false alarms, either faulty equipment, or customers tripping their own alarms on exit or entrance. Lets get this straight, monitoring for burglaries is a total scam. I've worked in an alarm monitoring center for a year. I hope this could help someone that is tired of paying for equipment that has been paid for twice over already, anyways good luck! It really doesn't bother me and I'm happy to have otherwise full functionality with no monthly charges. This means no beeps for keystrokes and no warning beeps when you enter the home with the alarm set. Now the system is fully operational except for any noise coming from the keypad. ![]() Anyways, the point of my post is that I hooked the power back up, opened the keypad, and cut out the speaker from the circuit board. I had to unplug the panel and batteries to turn it all off. I just got another error message on the keypad screen. I disconnected my phone line from the panel thinking it might stop, wrong. Soon after I cancelled service, my keypad started chirping every 30 seconds along with an error message on the keypad. I called to cancel my service and was informed that they were not interested in removing their equipment, but also that I could not use it without monitoring. I assumed from the beginning, without reading the fine print, that I could cancel service after my contract and keep using the system locally. I am one of the many who fell for the free install/high monthly monitoring charges scam that these companies provide. I was tired of paying $44/mo to ADT so I cancelled my monitoring. I just wanted to share that I've been using my ADT installed alarm system locally, with no monitoring or charges, for the last month and I wanted to share my experience.
